ABOUT US

Mexican Traditional Games and Sports Federation was born in 1988 as an initiative that become a formal organization in 1997, it was conceived for safeguarding and acknowledging diversity in shapes of ludic expression and it involves participation of sport and indigenous leaders, civil society and government institutions.

WHAT WE DO

We organize multiple activities to promote and safeguard Traditional Games and Sports in our country: festivals, championships, tournaments, courses, exhibitions, forums, certifications, we manufacture materials and equipment, produce media content, public policy conduct, international networking with similar entities around the globe, research and editorial publications.

OUR MOTIVATION

More than ever, we stand before the challenge to make our contribution to building a multicultural nation, in a society with plural vision, democratic and inclusive, where equity, non violence and respect build our identity with profound knowledge of our environment, thus, we work in different scopes to make this positioning possible as a national and international calling to acknowledge the importance and transcendence that traditional games and sports has and how it contributes cultural, social, and educationally to our life.

What are TSG?

In Mexico, Traditional games and sports play an essential role in the cultural identity of those who practices them, both, as a community and as a individual. TSG bond with cultures and societies in multiple ways: sometimes as a socializing tradition and some times they are bond to religious rituals, in some cases that can be influenced by festivity calendar, productive activities, weather and seasons, ecosystems and the availability of local materials, they also can serve as a teaching method through oral tradition or simply as a recreational practice.

In Mexican traditional games and sports universe, activities that have a link or have pre-hispanic reminiscences and are still practiced by communities are particularly important, their millenary heritage strengthens Mexico’s sport and cultural legacy.

FMJDAT, with over 200 different activities registered, represents the voice of 22 TSG state associations that involve the work of many different social actors: groups and organizations of players, sport trainers, volunteers, promoters, researchers, universities, the involvement of cultural, sport and legislative public institutions and similar international groups and organizations.
